PARAVAN presents the self-driving vehicle with fail-safe Drive-by-Wire technology
In the center of PARAVAN’s innovative development and manufacturing are people who have goals they want to achieve; freedom, acceptance and independence. Quality of life and personal fulfillment.
The innovators at PARAVAN, GmbH are known for their new, trend setting product innovations with the best interests of the disabled in mind. With the development of the first world-wide, street approved drive-by-wire system with active, three-fold redundancy, our creative inventors on the Schwabian Alb have also built the foundation on which the self-driving car operates. PARAVAN vehicles, built with experience specifically for the disabled, account for over 120 million kilometers driven on public roads in more than 5,000 vehicles.
A further milestone is the introduction of the first self-parking garage vehicles for people with restricted mobility at the REHACARE Convention in Düsseldorf from October 14-17, 2015. This is a development that has been realized together in cooperation with PARAVAN partner’s Ibeo and Kappa.
It’s that simple. The car is parked in front of the open garage door and the wheelchair driver exits the vehicle. With the help of a Touchscreen, the “Start” button activates an Ibeo laser scanner that takes a 3-D picture of the entire garage and scans for obstacles such as a small bicycle or child’s tricycle.
When the obstacle has been detected, the laser-scanner determines the precise angle and position in order to reference it when backing up from the garage.
Now, the “Park” button 2 is pushed. The vehicle continues in reverse as long as the driver presses the button or until the designated parking position is reached.
The user has the option to monitor the entire parking procedure not only from the outside view, but also on the Touchscreen camera. An angle camera from Kappa serves as visual support for the driver.
The process can, if necessary, be terminated at any point in time and the vehicle can be stopped by pressing the button #2 for “Park”. The exit from the garage can be activated by pressing “Exit” (Button 3) after the parking entry is complete.
During the entire process, an emergency brake and the deactivation of the Space Drive II can be initiated by pressing “Emergency Stop”.
This masterpiece offers a great assistance for the boundless mobility of the disabled and offers a freedom that has never been possible. Exiting a vehicle with a wheelchair based on space limitation has been virtually impossible. With this new technology, the vehicle is parked in front of the garage where the driver comfortable exits the car using the ramp or lift while the technology safely parks the car in the garage.
An important contribution has been achieved in social inclusion as ratified by the UN Disability Rights Convention.
